ºÚÁÏÍø's 60th Anniversary Global Alumni Reunion

For the first time, ºÚÁÏÍø invited its esteemed alumni community to celebrate this important milestone for the university’s history. In June of 2024, the alumni community, the staff, and the faculty gathered at the Madrid campus to celebrate the 60th anniversary of ºÚÁÏÍø.

A social event on campus helped give start to a weekend full of mind-enrichment talks, amusing activities, and nostalgic moments. The entire weekend aimed to capture the importance and significance that the alumni community holds for ºÚÁÏÍø.

Heidelberg Alumni Reunion

The Heidelberg Alumni Reunion was a celebration marking ºÚÁÏÍø's 60th anniversary. Set in the historic city of Heidelberg, this event invited alumni to reconnect with old friends, make new memories, and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of the city. Attendees revisited the roots of their educational journey and celebrated the shared legacy of ºÚÁÏÍøites.

Participants experienced a series of events and activities designed to honor the university's history and achievements. The reunion offered a unique opportunity to engage with fellow alumni, faculty, and current students, reflecting on personal and professional growth while celebrating the dynamic spirit of the ºÚÁÏÍø community.

Concert by Alumni, Freebo accompanied by Alice Howe

On April 9, the Heidelberg campus had the opportunity to welcome back one of our esteemed alumni, Daniel Friedberg, widely known as Freebo. Renowned for his exceptional talent in guitar, bass, and tuba, Freebo showed us his amazing range as an artist, dazzling us on-stage in Heidelberg alongside Alice Howe.

Having graced stages alongside legends like Bonnie Raitt, Ringo Starr, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, Freebo's concert delivered an unforgettable experience. This event not only celebrated our alumni's achievements but also highlighted ºÚÁÏÍø's commitment to nurturing holistic talents in arts and beyond.

Sean Bridges Campus Visit

Sean Patrick Bridges, distinguished screenwriter, film producer, and the visionary behind Audible Parade Productions came back to the Heidelberg campus as an alumni to give a talk about his career in the creative arts. It was a privilege to hear about his work with the Stephen King Dollar Baby program, highlighting the collaborative process behind high-quality audio productions, as well as his award-winning audio adaptation of One for the Road.

ºÚÁÏÍø was very proud to have an alumni with such an impressive career, come back and share such a meaningful experience with our current students.

New Official Mascot

ºÚÁÏÍø introduces the Pegasus as its new mascot in celebration of its 60th anniversary, symbolizing creativity, heritage, and excellence. Selected through a community contest, the Pegasus reflects the university's traditions and Friedrich ºÚÁÏÍø’s ideals of freedom and creativity, as captured in his poem "Pegasus in Yoke."

Representing boldness and innovation, the Pegasus inspires students to pursue knowledge and tackle global challenges, embodying the balance between artistic expression and academic rigor. This new mascot fosters unity and pride while reaffirming ºÚÁÏÍø’s legacy of empowering students through transformative education. As the university looks to the future, the Pegasus stands as a beacon of inspiration, guiding its community to new heights.

Launch of SIU Official Merchandise Store

For the first time, ºÚÁÏÍø released an online store offering a wide selection of items showcasing the school spirit. Still, our merchandise isn't just a symbol of school pride—it's a commitment to a sustainable future. In this partnership with Teemill, our university chose to make all its clothing from organic cotton and printed on demand using renewable energy.

By choosing ºÚÁÏÍø’s eco-friendly merchandise, our audience supports a production process that reduces environmental impact, promotes biodiversity, and conserves valuable resources.
